ABOUT THE COURSE

This course is the first step on the pathway to a career in childcare. It is aimed at learners whose first language is not English. The course includes a Childcare Level 1 NCFE Award, taught by industry specialists, alongside ESOL and maths. 

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

Modules include:

  • Childcare NCFE Level 1 Award
  • ESOL Skills for Life Awards in Speaking and Listening, Reading and Writing
  • Functional Skills Maths

WHAT WILL I NEED?

You will need:

  • Your English should be at strong Entry 3 level
  • You will need to have ESOL qualifications at Entry 3 or be able to demonstrate this in a pre-course assessment

You do not require any previous childcare qualifications. 

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

The Childcare Award will be assessed through a portfolio of evidence. You will sit exams for ESOL and maths. 

WHAT WILL IT COST?

Adults - Entry Level, Level 1 and Level 2


If you will be aged 19+ on 31st August prior to the start date of your course, up to Level 2, then your study with us will be free. You must have lived for 3 years within the EU/EEA/UK prior to the start of your course, you must have lived in the UK before 1st January 2021 and you must have permission to live in the UK for at least 12 months from the first day of learning. If you will be aged 19 or older on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, your course may be free, depending on your circumstances. WHAT CAN I DO AFTER?

After the course you can progress to Level 2 qualifications in Childcare, Health and Social Care, or Level 2 Pre-Access courses.
