ABOUT

Start your journey towards a career in finance and accounting. If you enjoy working with numbers and have an eye for detail, the AAT Level 2 Certificate in Bookkeeping is the perfect starting point. This nationally recognised qualification gives you a solid foundation in manual and digital bookkeeping, preparing you for entry-level roles or progression to higher-level AAT qualifications.

This course is ideal for:

  • Adults (19+) looking to retrain or upskill

  • Small business owners who want to manage their own books

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

You’ll learn how to:

  • Process customer and supplier transactions

  • Manage bank and cash records

  • Prepare journals, trial balances, and basic financial documents

  • Use accounting software to record and maintain accurate financial data

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

This course is for adults aged 19+ only.

You must have achieved a minimum of Functional Skills Level 1 in both Maths and English (Reading and Writing).

An initial assessment and interview will be required for all applicants.

This course would be a natural progression route for those who have completed AAT Level 1 Award in Bookkeeping.

COURSEWORK REQUIREMENTS

You will be continuously assessed through skills tests and exams. There are two assessments which are both individual unit assessments:

  • Introduction to Bookkeeping - 90 minutes computer-based exam
  • Principles of Bookkeeping Controls - 90 minutes computer-based exam

FEES

Adults - LEVEL 2

This course may be free for you if you meet certain conditions:

  • If you are not working or have a low income. You need to show proof of your income or benefits.
  • If you are aged 19-23 and you do not have the equivalent of five GCSEs at grade 9-4. You need to show us proof of any qualifications you already have.
  • Residency rules apply. You need to show you have permission to live, work and study in the UK without conditions for at least 12 months.
  • There are some exceptions, such as certain visa types.

If you do not meet the residency rules, you can still enrol on the course but you may have to pay some fees. All applicants are fee-assessed during enrolment.

If you are not eligible for a free or reduced-cost course, you need to pay the full fee.

AAT membership fees for Level 2 Bookkeeping. A one-off registration fee of £68, paid directly to AAT. This registration fee will give you access to the qualification for its lifetime, typically four to five years, and access to the study support resources, and enable you to sit the qualification assessments.

PROGRESSION

After successfully completing the Level 2 Certificate in Bookkeeping, you can choose to study another of our Level 2 courses:

  • Level 2 Certificate in Accounting (AAT)

Alternatively, you could choose to advance to one of our Level 3 AAT programmes including:

  • Level 3 Certificate in Bookkeeping (AAT)
  • Level 3 Certificate in Accounting (AAT)

This course can lead to employment in a variety of Jobs including Trainee Bookkeeper, Accounts Administrator, Finance Assistant, Clerical Assistant
