This course is designed to teach students the skills and knowledge needed to create and design board games using the latest 3D printing technology. The course will cover all aspects of board game design from ideation, prototyping, and playtesting to creating 3D models of game components and printing them using PLA 3D printers.
In this course, students will learn how to develop game mechanics, create game components and game boards, and design rulebooks. They will learn how to use game design software and tools to create, design, and test their board game ideas. Additionally, they will learn how to use 3D modelling software to create 3D models of game components and prepare them for 3D printing using PLA 3D printers.
Students will also learn about the various materials used in board game production, including different types of plastics, wood, metal, and cardboard. They will learn how to select the appropriate materials for their board game components, based on their functional requirements and aesthetic preferences.
The course will also cover the basics of 3D printing, including how to set up and operate a PLA 3D printer, how to create 3D models using 3D design software, and how to troubleshoot common issues that arise during the 3D printing process. Students will have the opportunity to print their 3D models using PLA 3D printers and gain hands-on experience with the technology.
Please be prepared to provide your residency documents such as a passport, EU citizen ID card, UK Birth Certificate or Biometric Card. If you have been in the UK for less than 3 years or have entered the UK with a visa you will need to provide evidence that you are eligible to study in the UK - your visa, your biometric card that covers the duration of your course or any relevant home office documents to support your residency should all be provided. If you’re an EU, EEA or Swiss citizen we will need to see evidence of 'Pre-Settled' or 'Settled-status' documents. Also for funding purposes we would need to see evidence of payslips if working (within the last 3 months). If you are receiving benefits (e.g JSA, ESA, Universal Credit (UC), Housing benefits etc. please provide evidence of this).
Upon successful completion of the course you can progress into further study in this area.
