This qualification is designed for current and prospective trainee teachers who wish to be involved in teacher education programmes and need to develop subject-specific skills in maths to be able to engage successfully in a future teacher training programme.
The qualification allows learners to learn, develop and practise their skills in maths.
The course is designed to develop your own maths skills, as well as teaching skills to support your learners with their maths knowledge development in the classroom.
Learners will interpret mathematical situations, process problems, analyse mathematical findings and use mathematical communication in professional and vocational contexts and academic subjects.

All applicants must have an interview and assessment to confirm that the course is suitable for them.
You will be continuously assessed throughout the course. Assessment is subject to external verification.
Learners must have completed a portfolio of evidence that covers all assessment criteria for each unit claimed.
If you will be aged 19 to 23 prior to the start date of your course, and do not already have a full Level 3 qualification, you may be eligible for a Level 3 entitlement, in which case your study with us will be free. If you are older, or already have a Level 3, we have many other Level 3 courses that are also free to study. Otherwise, you will have to pay the fees yourself or apply for an Advanced Learner Loan.

Jolanta Sostakiene is a dedicated educator with a passion for mathematics and teaching. With a solid academic foundation, Jolanta graduated from the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences in 1994, establishing a strong educational background that laid the groundwork for a fulfilling teaching career.
In 2015, Jolanta furthered their professional development by completing the DET (Diploma in Education and Training) at CONEL, showcasing a commitment to continuous growth and enhancing pedagogical skills. This qualification paved the way for a role as a mathematics lecturer at LearnDirect, where Jolanta imparted knowledge and fostered understanding among learners.
Since transitioning to CONEL in 2016, Jolanta has proven to be an invaluable asset to the educational institution. With a focus on teaching teenagers in the ESOL department and guiding students through GCSE maths, Jolanta demonstrated exceptional teaching abilities and an innate ability to connect with learners, making a lasting impact on their educational journeys.
Currently, Jolanta has been responsible for instructing adults in Functional Skills maths, a role that demands patience, adaptability, and a deep understanding of individual learning needs. Additionally, Jolanta imparts their expertise through teaching the Level 3 Award in mathematics for teaching numeracy, contributing to the professional development of fellow educators.
