ABOUT THE COURSE

This qualification is designed for prospective trainee teachers who wish to be involved in teacher education programmes and need to develop subject-specific skills in literacy and ESOL to be able to engage successfully in a future teacher training programme.

The qualification allows learners to learn, develop and practise their skills in English.

The course is designed to develop your own literacy and language subject knowledge, as well as teaching skills to support your learners with their literacy and language development in the classroom.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

Topics covered can include:

  • Analysing English language for literacy and language teaching
  • Reading skills for literacy and language teaching
  • Speaking and listening skills for literacy and language teaching

WHAT WILL I NEED?

You will need:

  • GCSE in English Language at grade 4 (A*-C) or above or Functional Skills in English at Level 2, or working towards or above this level

All applicants must have an interview and assessment to confirm that the course is suitable for them.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

You will be continuously assessed throughout the course. Assessment is subject to external verification.

WHAT WILL IT COST?

Adults - Level 3

If you will be aged 19 to 23 prior to the start date of your course, and do not already have a full Level 3 qualification, you may be eligible for a Level 3 entitlement, in which case your study with us will be free. If you are older, or already have a Level 3, we have many other Level 3 courses that are also free to study. Otherwise, you will have to pay the fees yourself or apply for an Advanced Learner Loan.

If you will be aged 19 or older on 31 August in the year you begin your course and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, you may be eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover the cost of your course. WHAT CAN I DO AFTER?

This course will enhance your CPD and employment opportunities, as well as allow you to progress onto further teaching courses such as Cambridge CELTA, Certificate/ Diploma in Education and Training.
