CAREER PROSPECTS

ABOUT THE COURSE

This course will advance your knowledge of the public services, including the army and police force, helping you to advance to further study or employment in the sector. Our teachers come from a variety of different uniformed services, and we have strong links with many large employers, giving you access to a wide range of activities and trips, which will give you valuable insight into the types of careers available.

Fitness is a major element of our public services courses, preparing you for selection tests within the armed forces or police force. You will also learn communication and English skills, which are essential so that you can communicate with members of the public and write-up notes and reports. Maths sills are also embedded into the course, helping you to read maps, perform compass work and undertake team planning.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

Topics covered can include: 

  • Improving Health and Fitness for Entry into Uniformed Service
  • Practical Teamwork in Public Services
  • Personal Skills for Public Service
  • Functional Skills in English and Maths

WHAT WILL I NEED?

You will need:

  • Four GCSEs at grade 3 or above or a relevant Level 1 Diploma
  • A reference from your previous school/college, with an attendance record of 87% or above

All applicants must have an interview and assessment to confirm that the course is suitable for them.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

Assessment is by coursework throughout the course.

WHAT WILL IT COST?

School Leavers

If you will be aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, it will be free. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as for materials and trips. Adults

Entry Level, Level 1, Level 2
If you will be aged 19 or older on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, your course may be free, depending on your circumstances. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as for materials and trips. WHAT CAN I DO AFTER?

On successful completion of this course, you could progress to Public Services - Level 3 Extended Diploma. Alternatively you can progress onto our Fitness courses. Opportunity to progress into the Special Constables with the Met Police.
