ABOUT THE COURSE
This course offers the City and Guilds 7202 qualification, and will allow you to gain an introduction to plumbing, giving you the basic fundamental practical skills and knowledge required by someone aspiring to be a plumber. It covers all the essential basic skills and knowledge you'll need to start working as a plumber, or engineer specialising in heating or ventilation. The course consists of practical and theory assignments and training to give you a good foundation from which to begin work or continue studying.
WHAT WILL I STUDY?
Topics covered can include:
- Installation, repair and maintenance of plumbing systems
- Above ground drainage
- Copper pipework
- Plastic pressure pipework
- Low carbon steel pipework
- Plumbing science
- Structure of the construction industry
- Environmental sustainability measures in domestic dwellings
- Site preparation in the construction industry
WHAT WILL I NEED?
You do not need to have any previous qualifications.
All applicants must have an initial assessment and interview to confirm that the course is suitable for them.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
You will be assessed on your completed practical tasks, against industry standards. Written assessment will include multiple choice questions, paper-based exams and written assignments.
WHAT WILL IT COST?
School Leavers
If you will be aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, it will be free. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as for materials and trips. Many of our students are eligible for financial support when studying at college – please click here for more information.
Adults
Entry Level, Level 1, Level 2
If you will be aged 19 or older on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, your course may be free, depending on your circumstances. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as for materials and trips. WHAT CAN I DO AFTER?
From this course you can progress onto Level 2 in Heating and Plumbing, subject to full completion of the Level 1 and a satisfactory level of attendance.
