This unit is about the skills and knowledge required by an IT user to use database software tools and techniques to:- enter straightforward or routine information into a database;- set up a single table in a flat file database;- retrieve information by running routine queries; and,- produce reports using predefined menus or short cuts.The structure and functionality of the database will be predefined. Any aspects that are unfamiliar will require support and advice from others.Database tools and techniques will be described as ‘basic’ because:- the tools and functions will be predefined or commonly used; and,- the techniques for inputting, manipulation and outputting will be straightforwardor routine.
You do not need to have any previous qualifications.All applicants must have an initial assessment and interview to confirm that the course is suitable for them.

If you will be aged 19 or older on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, your course may be free, depending on your circumstances. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as for materials and trips.
