ABOUT THE COURSE

The Level 1 Diploma in Hairdressing is a qualification that has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills.

This course provides an introduction to the hair industry and learn how to present a professional image and work with others in the salon.

You will develop your creative skills in the art of dressing hair and applying temporary colour, learn how to create a hair and beauty image and how to provide effective shampooing and conditioning hair.

You will be able to work in a salon reception and learn how to display retail stock for the creative art of styling hair.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

To further enhance your practical skills you will have the opportunity to choose from the following hairdressing units:

  • Style hair using barbering techniques
  • Plaiting and twisting hair
  • Style and finish Afro-textured hair
  • Provide scalp massage

Underpinning this qualification you will develop your knowledge of health and safety whilst working in the hair industry. You
will also develop an in-depth knowledge and understanding of each unit.

The purpose of this qualification is to develop your skills in hairdressing and will provide you with the foundation for further learning. It will also enable you to perform your services and assist others in the salon.

WHAT WILL I NEED?

You will need:

  • A good Level of English (minimum grade 3)
  • An interest in hairdressing

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

You will be assessed by:

  • Assignments
  • Practical observations
  • Online tests

WHAT WILL IT COST?

Aged 16-18


If you will be aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31st August prior to the start date of your course and you have the legal right to remain in the UK for the duration of your programme then your study with us will be free. Please see here for the documents you will need to show us.

Adults - Entry Level, Level 1 and Level 2


If you will be aged 19+ on 31st August prior to the start date of your course, up to Level 2, then your study with us will be free. You must have lived for 3 years within the EU/EEA/UK prior to the start of your course, you must have lived in the UK before 1st January 2021 and you must have permission to live in the UK for at least 12 months from the first day of learning. WHAT CAN I DO AFTER?

On successful completion of this qualification, you can progress onto Level 2 Hairdressing, Barbering, Beauty, Make-up or Nails course.

Her dynamic teaching methods and insightful guidance have shaped generations of hairstylists, many of whom have gone on to make their own mark in the industry.

Her love for sharing knowledge and witnessing students' growth fuels her passion for excellence, Lydia's expetise expanded into assessment and internall verification. Her meticulous assessments ensure high educational standards.

For over two decades, Lydia transitioned seamlessly into a role as a distinguisned hairdressing lecturer, guiding learners to disover their creative potential and translate their passion into success.
