ABOUT THE COURSE

This Level 3 City & Guilds qualification is a one-year course designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills to progress into an Engineering Apprenticeship. The course is highly practical and you will spend the majority of your time in the Engineering workshop. The course is perfect for anyone aspiring to start an Apprenticeship or work within Maintenance, Installation and Commissioning as a technician. 

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

The topics covered are:

  • Engineering health and safety
  • Engineering principles
  • Principles of engineering maintenance, installation and commissioning
  • Maintenance of machine systems
  • Machining materials by turning
  • Produce drawings using CAD

WHAT WILL I NEED?

You will need:

  • Three GCSE's at grade 4 or above including English, Science and Maths or an equivalent Level 2 Engineering qualification with Maths and English Functional Skills at Level 2.

All applicants must have an initial assessment and interview to confirm that the course is suitable for them.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

Engineering health and safety and Engineering Principles will be assessed externally through an online exam and rest of the units will be assessed through assignments, coursework and portfolio evidence.

WHAT WILL IT COST?

School Leavers

If you will be aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, it will be free. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as for materials and trips. Adults

Entry Level, Level 1, Level 2
If you will be aged 19 or older on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, your course may be free, depending on your circumstances. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as for materials and trips. WHAT CAN I DO AFTER?

Upon successfully completing this one-year course, you are able to progress onto an Engineering Apprenticeship or a Level 3 National Foundation in Engineering if you wish to go to university.
