ABOUT THE COURSE

This course is for learners who have some knowledge and basic skills in production or maintenance engineering to enable them to progress safely into the workplace/employment or who want increase their skills and progress onto Level 3 Engineering. It allows you to learn, develop and apply the skills required for employment and/or career progression in the engineering sector.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

The topics covered are:

  • Unit 201 - Working safely in an engineering environment
  • Unit 202 - Carrying out engineering activities efficiently and effectively
  • Unit 203 - Using and communicating technical information
  • Unit 205 - Producing components using hand fitting techniques 
  • Unit 211 - Preparing and using lathes for turning operations
  • Unit 236 - Assembling and testing electronic circuits

WHAT WILL I NEED?

You will need:

  • Three GCSEs at grade 3 or above or an equivalent Level 1 Engineering qualification with Functional Skills at level 1 in Maths and English.

All applicants must have an initial assessment and interview to confirm that the course is suitable for them.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

You will be assessed through a portfolio of evidence, collected from written assessments, presentations, witness statements, practice observations, and practical tasks. 

WHAT WILL IT COST?

School Leavers

If you will be aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, it will be free. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as for materials and trips. WHAT CAN I DO AFTER?

Upon successfully completing this course, you are able to progress to Level 3 Engineering (apprenticehsip route) or Level 3 National Foundation in Engineering (university route).
