ABOUT THE COURSE

This qualification has been designed to deliver a high level of occupational skills and provide a platform from which to progress through further learning or into employment. This vocational route at level 3 is a vital step towards becoming a competent electrician

Typical tasks of an Electrician include:

  • Visits and advises clients on the use and servicing of electrical systems and equipment;
  • Diagnoses and detects faults and implements procedures to maintain efficient operation of systems and equipment;
  • Plans installation methods and prepares work and test schedules for systems and equipment.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

As part of the qualification you will cover the following areas:

  • Working safely and effectively 
  • Design, construct, test and commission electrical systems 
  • Methods of supervision 
  • Electrical science and principles 
  • Regulations and law 
  • Diagnose and repair electrical faults. 

WHAT WILL I NEED?

You should have successfully completed the level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installation.

All applicants must have an initial assessment and interview to confirm that the course is suitable for them.

You will also need stationary, overalls and safety boots.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

You will sit the externally set and marked examination that will consist of short answer questions, multiple choice and detailed answer questions.

Your practical skills will also be assessed in a number of ways. During the course your practical skills will be assessed to ensure competency and prepare you for the final synoptic assessment.

WHAT WILL IT COST?

Entry Level, Level 1, Level 2
If you will be aged 19 or older on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, your course may be free, depending on your circumstances. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as for materials and trips. WHAT CAN I DO AFTER?

Following successful completion of this course, there are many further specific and specialised qualifications enhancing skills within the industry, such as electrical design, inspection and testing, appliance safety and environmental technology systems.

You may also wish to progress on to Level 4 programmes or look for a suitable apprenticeships.

Experienced electricians can expect to earn up to £50k a year.
