ABOUT THE COURSE

The Level 4 certificate is a teaching qualification, in which you will gain a fundamental understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a teacher/trainer, planning for inclusive learning, methods in delivering and assessing education and training, and the use of resources in education and training.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

The qualification covers the knowledge and skills required by teachers/trainers in the further education and skills sector.

Candidates who successfully complete this qualification will have a fundamental understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a teacher/trainer in relation to legislation, equality, diversity, inclusivity and meeting the needs of learners. They will be able to use initial and diagnostic assessments and plan and deliver inclusive teaching and learning. They will also be able to assess learning and use appropriate resources to support effective learning.

WHAT WILL I NEED?

You will need:

  • Candidates should be qualified/ experienced in the subject they intend to teach, have access to 30 teaching practice hours and possess reasonablelevels of language, literacy and numeracy
  • All trainee teachers joining this qualification programme should undertake an initial assessment of skills and should record their development needs and agree an action plan to address them
  • Level 3 qualification and/or experience in your specialist subect
  • GCSEs at grade 4 or above in English Language and Maths or Functional Skills in English and Maths at Level 2, or working towards achievement of these IT literacy, equivalent to Level 2
  • All applicants must have an interview to confirm that the course is suitable for them

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

The qualification will be assessed by a combination of assignments and observation of teaching or training.

The qualification allows candidates to progress into employment as teachers/trainers, as well as to the City & Guilds qualification Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (DET).
