
This course is a practical, hands-on course that will teach you the foundations of carpentry and joinery and allow you to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment.

The study programme consists of a carpentry and joinery diploma, Maths and English, work experience and essential digital skills.
You do not need to have any previous qualifications although all applicants will need to have an interview and an initial assessment to confirm that the course is suitable for them.
You will also need stationary, overalls and safety boots.
Assessment is by an externally set theoretical knowledge test, together with unit tests and continually assessed coursework. Students also meet regularly with tutors to help plan studies and to discuss progress.
If you will be aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, it will be free. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as for materials and trips. Entry Level, Level 1, Level 2
If you will be aged 19 or older on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, your course may be free, depending on your circumstances. This can lead to further study at Level 2 Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery or an apprenticeship if employment is gained. Construction workers can work in the UK or abroad, in a range of industries, or even set up their own business. Experienced Carpenters and Joiners can expect to earn up to £42k a year.
Opportunities also exist of learners moving into the new developing area of sustainability such as working on prefabricated units.
