ABOUT THE COURSE

This course offers a mixture of hands-on work, industry visits and study in the theory of science. You will also visit places of scientific interest to learn about the history of science, and visit working scientific facilities to see how theory is turned into practice.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

This course consists of two separate qualifications. In your first year of study, you will work towards the Level 3 90-Credit Diploma. Following successful completion of this qualification, you will be able to progress to the Extended Diploma. Our Extended Diplomas offer equivalent UCAS points to studying 3 A Levels.

Topics covered can include:

  • Chemical Periodicity
  • Biomedical Science
  • Genetics
  • Physiology
  • Microbiology

WHAT WILL I NEED?

You will need:

  • Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English Language, Maths and Science (Combined Science, or two individual Sciences) or an equivalent Level 2 qualification at Merit (and Functional Skills in English and Maths at Level 2/GCSE English Language and Maths at grade 4 or above)
  • A reference from your previous school/college

All applicants must have an interview and assessment to confirm that the course is suitable for them.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

Assessments include two examinations and coursework assessments that is continuous and focus on practical laboratory work and assignments.

WHAT WILL IT COST?

Additional costs, which may include the purchase of books, will be confirmed at enrolment. 

WHAT CAN I DO AFTER?

On successful completion of this course, you could progress to the second year of the programme, an apprenticeship or to employment.
