Applied Science - Level 1 Introductory Diploma

This course is designed primarily for 16 to 19+ learners who wish to achieve a Level 1 qualification in preparation for future study at a higher level and It will develop your basic knowledge about Biology, Chemistry and Physics but also the transferable skills, attributes and behaviours needed to progress to further study and ultimately to employment.

The topics covered are:

• Exploring Biology
• Exploring Chemistry
• Exploring Physics
• Carrying Out a Scientific Experiment
• Investigating Variations in Plants and Animals
• Measuing Waves Used in Technology
• Being Organised
• Developing a Personal Progression Plan
• Working with Others
• Researching a Topic

You will need

• At least Entry 3 in both Maths and English. You are able to take an English and Maths assessment at our centres during the interview stage to determine your level.

All applicants must have an initial assessment and interview to confirm that the course is suitable for them.

You will be assessed through classroom presentations, written assignments and practical reports. You will complete projects and assignments based on realistic workplace situations and activities to introduce you to the different science related career options.

School Leavers

If you will be aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, it will be free. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as for materials and trips. Adults

Entry Level, Level 1, Level 2
If you will be aged 19 or older on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, your course may be free, depending on your circumstances. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as for materials and trips. Once you succesfully complete your course, you will receive a BTEC Level 1 Diploma in Applied Science and progress to a Level 2 Diploma in Applied Science or any other related field.

This course will give you basic foundation in applied science, so that you can progress to further study in a science or technology related area.

• Healthy Living
• Working in Science and Technology
• Carrying Out a Science or Technology Project

• Using Equipment to Make Scientific Observations and Measurements
• Forensic Detection
• Using ICT in the Workplace
