MEET SOME OF THE TEACHERS

Leonard George

Leonard has 33 years of Science teaching experience; of which to date has spent 21 years in the College of Haringey, Enfield and Northeast London (CONEL) alone. Leonard's educational training is in a BSc in Biochemistry, an MSc in Applied Human Biology and a PGCE (post-16).

Leonard possesses a diverse knowledge of professional practice. In autumn 2018, Leonard undertook a one-week STEM-sponsored internship in the departments of Medicine, Dentistry and Cell Biology research at Queen Mary University of London, alongside the university teaching staff in their professional practice.

Leonard’s professional teaching and assessment are on Levels 1 - 4 Science classes (also being their tutor). He mentors new staff colleagues commencing their teaching in the Science department. Being in the teaching profession from a very young age has enabled him to share his own pedagogical experience and understanding alongside colleagues with a considerable sense of natural disposition concerning various academic scenarios.

Aside from his experience (over three decades) of teaching Science, Leonard is a very pragmatic and compassionate practitioner, with a keen eye for detail and suitable application of knowledge in the teaching profession. In character, he is quite affable (down-to-earth and approachable), adaptable and dependable. Thus, in his professional practice, Leonard shares his innate virtues of human understanding, patience, the need for appropriate support, and developmental feedback. Overall, a reflective approach to teaching has been the key to consistency and improvement throughout his professional practice.

Chiranjib Ray

Chiranjib works as a Lecturer of Physics and Chemistry at CONEL. Chiranjib has been teaching for 13 years in secondary schools and FE colleges. Chiranjib teaches Chemistry and Physics to BTEC Applied Science cohorts from Level 1 to Level 3. Chiranjib also teaches BTEC National Diploma in Engineering.

In their previous role as Head of Science at Acland Burghley, Chiranjib managed 12 teachers and two technicians. Chiranjib was responsible for the management, organisation and coordination of teaching of three science subjects from Year 7 to Year 13. Chiranjib taught AQA Chemistry to A Level students and the BTEC Level 3 students. Chiranjib also taught science to mix ability sets from Year 7 to Year 11 and a Separate Science Physics set in Year 11. Chiranjib was also the tutor of a Year 12 cohort.

Chiranjib guided tutees in writing their personal statements for UCAS applications and wrote their references. Chiranjib was the lead IV for BTEC. Chiranjib has a thorough knowledge of different systems and processes, including 4 Matrix, ALPS, SIMS, Moodle, Markbook and Enhanced Result Analysis tool. Chiranjib has compiled detailed reports on GCSE and A Level result analysis and made presentations to the SLT and the Governors.

Chiranjib completed a BSC (Hons) in Chemistry, a BEng in Biochemical Engineering, an MBA in Finance, PGCE with QTS, QTLS, NPQML, and NPQSL (ongoing). Chiranjib is reluctant to accept underachievement and strives hard to achieve outstanding results for students and continue to improve their life chances by working in a team.
