ABOUT THE COURSE

The aim of the course is to provide opportunities for young adults to increase their knowledge of theatre, acting and performance practices, and to gain access to both vocational and higher education in this area.

The emphasis of the course is the development of skills in acting, performance and movement and how they interrelate with each other to create exciting new approaches in performance.

Practical classes in contemporary and classical performance techniques will be complemented by theoretical studies. Research skills will be developed through the study of dramatic history, which will include critical debate around current drama and performance work.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

You will learn the essential skills needed to make progress within the Performing Arts and Acting Industry, taking you a step closer to gaining employment in this area. The course is a one-year course, that is designed as a precursor to the two-year Level 3 Performing and Production Arts course. The completion of the first two units will grant you an Award. This is designed as an introduction to the course and its expectations. This is followed by 7 more units that make up your Level 2 Diploma.

WHAT WILL I NEED?

You will need:

  • Four GCSEs at grade 3 and above in English Language, or equivalent Functional Skills
  • A reference from your previous school/college
  • Attend a workshop audition at the college

All applicants must have an audition to confirm that the course is suitable for them.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

The course is a one-year course, taht is designed as a precursor to the two-year Level 3 Performing and Production Arts course. The completion of the first two units will grant you an Award. This is designed as an introduction to the course and its expectations. This is followed by 7 more units that make up your Level 2 Diploma. Some units are assessed mainly through written work. Some will be assessed thorugh small performances presented to other members of your class. Somne are assessed by means of large-scale, public performances to an invited audience.

WHAT WILL IT COST?

School Leavers

If you will be aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, it will be free. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as for materials and trips. WHAT CAN I DO AFTER?

This course  will help you to move on to a higher level course, such as a Bachelor of Arts, and apprenticeship or other industry employment.
