ABOUT THE COURSE
This course equips you with the skills and experience to progress in engineering, mixing practical work with underpinning theory to develop your understanding of the engineering environment. You will gain a broad level of understanding in performing engineering operations, and be able to progress your skills with further study.
WHAT WILL I STUDY?

- Working Safely in an Engineering Environment
- Communications
- Working Effectively in an Engineering Environment
- Computer Aided Drawing
- Filing and Fitting Techniques
- Sheet Metal Work
- MIG/MAG/Gas Welding
- Engineering Maintenance
- Pneumatics
WHAT WILL I NEED?
You will need:
Three GCSEs including English Language and Science at grade 3 or above and Mathematics at grade 4 or above or equivalent Level 1 qualification with Functional Skills in English at Level 1 and Mathematics at Level 2
All applicants must have an initial assessment and interview to confirm that the course is suitable for them.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
Assessment is continuous throughout the year through completing written assignments and projects as well as and performing practical work that is assessed internally within the college. There will also be some written examinations, assessed externally via Pearson, the BTEC awarding body.
WHAT WILL IT COST?
School Leavers
If you will be aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, it will be free. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as for materials and trips. WHAT CAN I DO AFTER?
This course will help you to move on to higher level study, an apprenticeship or other employment.
