ABOUT THE COURSE

The AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting (AQ2022) is an entry-level qualification that provides foundational knowledge in accounting and finance. It covers key areas such as introduction to bookkeeping, principles of bookkeeping controls, principles of costing, and the business environment. This course is ideal for beginners looking to start a career in accounting or progress to higher-level qualifications.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

The course covers the following main areas:

  • Introduction to Bookkeeping
  • Principles of Bookkeeping Controls
  • Principles of Costing
  • Business Environment synoptic

WHAT WILL I NEED?

  • You will need to have good numeric skills and be able to complete exams and written projects in English.
  • Applicants will need to have FS L1 in both English and Maths.  For English, applicants will need to have achieved L1 in Reading and Writing FS.
  • All applicants must have an initial assessment and interview to confirm that the course is suitable for them.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

Four units are assessed individually in end-of-unit assessments, but this qualification also includes a synoptic assessment that you sit toward the end of the qualification. The synoptic assessment draws on and assesses knowledge and understanding from across the qualification.

WHAT WILL IT COST?

Adults - Entry Level, Level 1 and Level 2


If you will be aged 19+ on 31st August prior to the start date of your course, up to Level 2, then your study with us will be free. You must have lived for 3 years within the EU/EEA/UK prior to the start of your course, you must have lived in the UK before 1st January 2021 and you must have permission to live in the UK for at least 12 months from the first day of learning. You will need to have a valid AAT membership registration for the duration of the course.
Students are required to pay AAT registration costs for new membership - £180, a one-off fee for access to the qualification for its lifetime, typically four to five years.

WHAT CAN I DO AFTER?

On successful completion of this course, you could progress to a Level 3 course or an apprenticeship.

MEET SOME OF THE TEACHERS

Mohamed Koroma

Mohamed has been an Accounting lecturer at City and Islington College since 2016. Mo is a PGCE (Westminster University, London) qualified trainer and assessor and enjoys sharing knowledge and practical skills in Accounting and Finance. Mo’s philosophy is deeply rooted in staying current with industry developments through CPDs in Accounting and Education.

Mo is an ACCA/FCCA certified accountant with over 15 years in the public sector with skills in budgeting, financial reporting, and performance management underpinned by developing and implementing robust accounting systems to support internal controls and uphold ethical standards.

Mo also holds an ACCA Certificate in Digital Innovation for Finance (2023) and is certified in Business Objects Designer/Reporter/Supervisor and IBM Cognos reporting.

Mo has a passion for working in education and has supported over a thousand learners in Lifelong Learning and Employability. Mo’s career also spans adult education services (Haringey Adult Learning Service, North London), vocational training services (Mary Ward Centre, Central London), and Higher Education (University of Hertfordshire).
