About

Information Communication Technicians provide technical assistance by installing, configuring, and maintaining computer systems, networks, and related equipment. They diagnose and resolve software and hardware issues, perform routine maintenance, and assist users via phone, email, or face-to-face. Their duties include setting up new devices, upgrading infrastructure, testing new applications, and training users on systems. They also document support activities, monitor performance, and collaborate with IT professionals to enhance support strategies.

Duration: CCC will run this programme over a 21-month timeframe, with a learning period of 18 months and an End Point Assessment (EPA) of up to 3 months.

Who is it for?

  • School leavers (16+) – looking to start a career in ICT with hands-on experience
  • New entrants to the ICT industry, depending on the job role
  • Career changers – transitioning into the ICT industry from another field
  • Individuals working in various organisations in varied ICT support roles

Training

During the apprenticeship, an apprentice will cover all elements below:

  • 20 Occupational duties (knowledge, skills and behaviours)
  • Optional: Functional Skills English and Maths Level 2
  • CompTIA A+ (optional) or BCS Level 3 Certificate in IT User Skills ECDL Advanced (optional)

End Point Assessment

  • Project report with questioning
  • Interview and portfolio- professional interview with a portfolio of evidence
  • Grading - performance in the EPA will determine the overall apprenticeship standard grade

Next Steps

The Information Communication Technician Level 3 Apprentices can progress to:

  • Higher roles in ICT roles such as IT Technician, 1st/2nd Line Support Technician, Network Technician, Service Desk Analyst, IT Support
  • Engineer, Infrastructure Technician, Technical Support Analyst, Systems Administrator (entry-level)
  • To higher apprenticeships such as the Level 4 Network Engineer Apprenticeship, the Level 4 Cyber Security Technologist Apprenticeship
  • Level 4 Software Developer Apprenticeship and Level 4 IT Solutions Technician (Hardware or Software)

Future Opportunities

A completer of the IC Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship is eligible to apply for:

  • Professional Registration as an Associate Member (AMBCS) of the
  • British Computer Society (BCS), which is the Chartered Institute for IT.
  • RITTech Registration (Registered IT Technician)
  • CompTIA IT Professional Membership
