About

The Data Analyst Level 4 apprenticeship develops the skills needed to collect, organise, and analyse data to support organisations in making informed, evidence-based decisions.

You will learn to work with large data sets using tools such as Excel, SQL, Power BI, and programming languages like Python or R and gain expertise in cleaning and validating data to ensure accuracy and reliability. You will also be taught important principles of data ethics and governance, including how to handle sensitive information in line with GDPR regulations.

A key part of the role is communicating findings effectively, translating complex data into clear, actionable insights for both technical teams and business stakeholders. Through real-world projects within their workplace, apprentices build practical experience applying statistical techniques and data visualisation to identify trends, forecast outcomes, and support strategic planning. This comprehensive training equips them with a strong foundation for a successful career in data analysis across various industries.

Duration: This programme runs over a 24-month timeframe, with a learning period of 21 months and an End Point Assessment (EPA) of 3 months.

  • Apprentices progressing from a Level 3 qualification, such as the Information Communication Technician or Data Technician apprenticeship

Progression

Professional recognition upon completion. You will be eligible for Associate Membership of professional bodies such as the BCS (The Chartered Institute for IT). You will gain access to membership with The Data Management Association (DAMA UK) or The Institute of Analytics Professionals (IAPA), as well as ongoing professional development in the data and digital sector.

Training

Included in the programme:

  • Coverage of key knowledge, skills and behaviours aligned to the standard
  • Optional Functional Skills in English and maths (Level 2)
  • Understanding data ethics, GDPR, and data quality principles
  • Applying statistical methods and presenting data insights to stakeholders

You will also get support in using key tools such as:

  • Excel (advanced)
  • SQL
  • Power BI / Tableau
  • Python or R (for data analysis)
  • Data modelling techniques

End Point Assessment

  • Professional Discussion- Underpinned by a portfolio of evidence.
  • Grading - Performance in the EPA will determine the overall apprenticeship standard grade.
