Capital City College Group offers one of the largest ranges of Apprenticeship training across London. Apprenticeships allow individuals to earn while they learn, get new skills and knowledge whilst working, and progress within an organisation or career path. For employers, hiring an Apprentice is an opportunity to recruit motivated employees and teach them the skills that their organisation needs.
How the Apprenticeship Scheme works
We provide a package of support and mentoring, plus 20% of training directly from us offsite (or onsite depending on the type of Apprenticeship).
Our training and support programmes include:
Mentoring with industry professional teachers
Skills development plans relevant to the Apprentices’ role
On-site additional industry and soft skills training
Access to the college’s state-of-the-art training facilities
Our Facilities
Depending on the Apprenticeship, you are able to access our facilities which include:
High-spec computer and IT suites
TV, film, and music production studios
Dark rooms and photography studios
Construction and engineering workshops
Lab facilities
Art, design, and textiles studios and workshops
Sports facilities including fitness studios, gyms, sports courts, and pitches
You will gain valuable real-life workplace experience, plus additional training in soft skills relevant to your job and more industry-specific skills through our short courses. At the end of the Apprenticeship, you receive a certificate of completion. The Apprenticeship will give you the industry skills you need to progress in your chosen career; this could be through progression within the organisation where you have done the Apprenticeship, or you can apply for roles in your chosen field.
As an Apprentice, you will:
Be paid and be entitled to the National Minimum Wage for Apprentices (currently at £4.81 for Apprentices and under 18s, £6.83 for 18-20, £9.18 for 21-22 and £9.50 for over 23 as of April 2022).
Be given paid time off for additional training or study as part of your Apprenticeship
Gain work experience in your chosen sector with on-the-job training
For full details on your rights as an Apprentice, visit the official Government site on becoming an Apprentice.
How to get started
To start an Apprenticeship, you’ll need to be:
16 or over – you can apply whilst at school, but you will need to be turning 16 by the end of the summer holidays
Living in England – you should select an Apprenticeship Scheme where you are able to travel to both the workplace and college to perform your training
Not in full-time education whilst you do the Apprenticeship
Work within a role that is relevant to their Apprenticeship
Work enough paid hours each week to undertake sufficient training to achieve their Apprenticeship in its entirety. This should be 30 paid hours a week or more which includes the off-the-job training hours
Have obtained a grade 4 (C) or above in GCSE Maths and English. If you have not achieved these grades, you can still do an Apprenticeship. In this case, you will need to do a Functional Skills course in Maths and English at the same time as you do your Apprenticeship. You may also be able to apply for a Pre-Apprenticeship Scheme which is a study course to help get some qualifications to be eligible to apply for an Apprenticeship once completed.
To apply for an Apprenticeship, you will need to apply for a job at a company that is offering an Apprenticeship Scheme through places such as the Job Centre, Total Jobs, Indeed, and LinkedIn or check out our current vacancies here. From there you can discuss with your employer about carrying-out your off-the-job training at one of our participating colleges.
If you are unsure about how to find an Apprenticeship, we have many links with employers who offer them so please get in touch with us and we can give you advice.
If you are interested in an Apprenticeship but have not yet applied for one, you can speak to one of our Apprenticeship advisors who can provide further advice based on your individual circumstances (see form below).
