16-19 Tuition Opt-In Fund

16 to 19 Tuition Fund – 2021 to 2022 Academic Year

Capital City College Group is committed to providing the highest quality learning experiences for its students and providing support to students whose learning was disrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The group is pleased to have received an additional funding grant of £1,173,917 from the Education & Skills Funding Agency for the college year 2021/22.

The grant is to support small group tuition for students aged 16 to 19 in English, maths and other subjects that have been disrupted, including vocational and academic learning.

With help from the grant, we are providing catch-up support and revision sessions for eligible students, going above and beyond their programmes of learning. The sessions are for students who have not achieved a grade 4 or 5 in English and/or maths, or are from an economically disadvantaged background and would benefit from catch-up support.

The rationale is to bridge the gap in students’ skills and knowledge following the COVID-19 lockdown. Teaching is focused on revisiting English, maths and other subjects where appropriate, to reinforce key concepts and to support students to be able to apply these fluently.

Tuition is in small groups, delivered face to face or through a blended delivery model, normally with up to 5 students in each group. The sessions are timetabled at regular intervals throughout the academic year to meet individual students’ needs, and also at key points where students need to focus on exam preparation and technique. There is also some self-directed study using e-learning platforms, linked to the in-person tuition. Support will be based on individual needs, the identification of an individual starting point, clear learning goals, expectations, and outcomes.
